I am equally grieved and devastated by the travesities afflicting the homeless in cities and communities all across our nation and the world. Stumbling across this blog, I have also been equally encouraged to continue my fight to end it in my own hometown of Savannah, GA and believe that raising our voices on our friends continued behalfs will ultimately end the injustices they face each and every single day. Thank you for your passion and may God continue to bless all of your endeavors and initiatives.

I rarely say this about any human being but I am glad he's gone. The "Reverend" Wilcox was a violent racist and abused his family. I was his downstairs neighbor for many years in the late 1990s when he and his wife and daughter were living in an apartment in Toms River. I frequently had to call the police on him for terrorizing my family to the point of driving my son to tears of fear because of the way Wilcox would hammer the floor above to complain about the noise, almost always during daylight hours. We reached the point of having to file a formal report with the police. We also took up a petition among the other neighbors in the complex in an effort to have him evicted for the way he would terrorize those around him, on one occasion even threatening them. "I'll kill you honkey bastards!" he yelled at the kids. An investigation was initiated with DYFS because of suspicion of what he was doing with his family, but I will say no more about that.

I pity his wife and daughter and am glad they're free of him. Wilcox got what he deserved.

Dear Mrs. Linda Mary Liotino...

Thank you so much for writing and your comment. Please do post a note so those of us that did not know Jimmy well can get a great picture of the man and what he stood for. I don't thing the general public really knew what he was all about and how he was trying to equalize less fortunate folks in the area.

My blog post was put forth simply because I did not want his death to go un-noticed by the general public. I was not happy about the articles written about him in the Asbury Park Press. In no way, shape, or form was I stating that his life was simple and that he did not deserve memorial services...on the contrary. The township officials would sweep his life under the rug if it weren't for us making his story public; beyond just the homeless community.

My circle of friends and colleagues did not know Jimmy at all. And because of mine and our writings...now they do and they see a side of "life" to which they are not normally exposed!

Thank you to you and your daughter! Please write or post a blog note about Jimmy!

Hi. I just wanted to say that I also stayed at one of Minister Steve's sites. We stayed for about 3 months, maybe less, durring the summer. Durring that time, my husband found work and saved up to get us a place of our own. Minister Steve and Hanaa are the most wonderful people. They truley care about the people that are in the woods. Hanna would come every day to check on everyone to see what was needed. Minister Steve would come to talk and to bring things of need. If Lakewood does not want homless people living in the;r area, why won't they help. Social Services will NOT help these people. As it was said in the article, they send you to AC to live in a shelter that is worse then living in the woods. If me and my husband ahd gone there, my husband wouldn't of had work and it would have strated all over again. This state is a horriable place to live unless you are making over $150,000 a year. Minister Steve is just trying to make things more comfortable for people whil they try to come up with different solutions. Social Services should team up with Minister Steve to help. He can't do it alone. There is alos another orginaztion called STEPS that helps prevent homlessness and helps get people into rehabs. maybe Minister Steve could also work with them. There are just too many homless people for one person to be trying to figure it all out. Good Luck Minister Steve and thank you ofr helping us!!

There was nothing simple about Jimmy he was more than just another homeless man. I thought of putting my thoughts here but I will Blog the real Jimmy Wilcox...for I am his wife Linda Wilcox of 27 years and although his life ended tragically the years of his homelessness were merely a drop in the bucket to who the man really was...

This is his daughter Angela Wilcox. I read the article and it just seemed to me that nobody would care enough to have a memorial service in his rememberance and I resent that. His memorial service will be located at the Macedonia Baptist Churh in Lakewood, New Jersey Feb 10,2009 at 11:00. All i ask is that your facts are right before you publish something stating there are no viewings, or memorial service in his honor. That is my father who i miss and love.

Thank you for this piece Ruben. Have you submitted it to the new administration?
If it's alright with you...I would like to point to your writings on PassionWorks' website and put a link to your society online also.
I won't be doing this for a couple of days...so please let me know should you have any objections. I want to work together and not against each other!

Peace and God's continued blessings to you!
Chuck <

Hi Rob...

Thanks for writing and getting in touch with me. I would be honored to meet you at the meeting tonight if you can make it. The meeting will be at Town Hall in Lakewood, just behind the main square on Clifton Avenue where many ministries serve food to the needy. The meeting will start at 7:30pm I believe.

If we do not connect tonight...please make contact with me. My cell phone number is 732-272-3477.

Peace and God's continued blessings to you!
Chuck <
